Do you have some free time? Correction. Do you have 9 and half hours to waste? If yes, consider taking this challenge which was recently taken by a YouTuber named Hunter Hobbs from Oklahoma.
The challenge is this – open an excel worksheet, make sure you are in row 1 and then use just the arrow key (no shortcuts or mouse allowed) to scroll down the entire worksheet without stopping till you reach the last row.
Sounds dumb? Well, Hobbs agrees!
In a recent time-lapse video uploaded by Hobbs on YouTube, he can be seen scrolling (or should I say ‘blasting’?) through the excel sheet from top to bottom. The video is 2:40 minutes long and in the video Hobbs can be seen trying his hand on everything he could just to keep himself from getting tired and bored while he was on his ‘mission’ to find how much time a person would take if he doesn’t use the prescribed shortcut (Ctrl + Down Arrow Key, which will not take more than a second) to go from top to bottom in an excel sheet.
It’s a question that the whole mankind wanted an answer for (). And Hunter Hobbs would be always remembered to save the world by relieving its people of this constant pain of curiosity they were going through. Thanks Hobbs!
So the answer is roughly 9 and a half hours (9 hours 36 minutes and 10 seconds to be precise)
In case you don’t know, an excel worksheet has a total of 1,048,576 rows, and pressing Ctrl and Down Arrow key could have taken him to row 1048576 in less than a second. But he is not a believer in shortcuts for sure.
And he is not selfish at all. He went on to post the video of his feat on YouTube for generations to enjoy! Watch the 2 and half minute video below (Also post your comments below. This deserves a discussion!). It’s pretty interesting and you get to watch history being made!
“I’m tired, I’m hungry, and my hands really hurt, which is pretty sad,” he says upon reaching the end. “That was the Excel Challenge. Don’t do it.”
Hobbs has also said that if his video receives more than 2000 likes on YouTube he will be uploading the full unedited video. At the time of making this post live this video had already received more than 1600 likes and over 3 lac views.
Interesting comments are pouring on YouTube. One viewer says: “Now, could you please do the exact same thing with Microsoft Word in order to make us know how many sheets we can create in a single document? Please do it. Thanks.” – Nice Guy
There is no shortage of support either for Hobbs. Hobbs clearly declares this as a ‘challenge’ in the video description and based on this some viewers argue that it is unfair to make fun of him. “Guys the journey is what matters not the destination. He could have used Ctrl+Arrows but he did it for the challenge. With that out of the way…. I challenge you to reach the end of excel SIDEWAYS.” says Glitched_Name
Stupid or not, one has to agree to the fact that this video and its maker have got the attention they wanted.
